Neonatal Unit - respiratory ‘carestation’ and vital signs monitor

The Trust’s Neonatal Unit cares for some of the smallest and weakest babies in the North West region, including babies from 23 weeks onwards, sometimes weighing as little as 500g. The availability of modern monitoring equipment is central to this service.

The Neonatal Unit’s mission was recently supported by the purchase of a critical care respiratory ‘carestation’, along with vital signs equipment which monitors babies’ blood pressure, respiratory rate and heart rate, with back-up battery packs in case of power cuts.

Both the ‘carestation’ and the monitor were purchased by the Charity with support from The Ickle Pickle Partnership, which itself offers grants to help equip neonatal units. The Charity is extremely grateful for this support, which will make a real difference to neonatal care for the Trust’s smallest patients.

The Neonatal Unit Matron said:

“We are extremely grateful for the support of the Charity and the longstanding relationship we have with The Ickle Pickle Partnership. This hi-tech equipment allows us to maintain capacity and takes away the worry should we ever have a power cut.”
